Help keep the Uptown on target for a late 2028 opening by donating to our summer 2026 Light Up the Uptown fundraising initiative–a community-powered campaign led by your neighbors, colleagues and friends!
Since September 2024, The Uptown has raised approximately $11 million from more than 700 donors. But now we’re trying to increase the number of donors, which will ultimately help us unlock more major gifts from foundations, city and state. And every new dollar allows us to keep our top-notch construction team of architects, engineers, and consultants working on pre-production and design development–all in preparation for ground-breaking (targeted for May 2027).
We’re asking everyone we know to help Light Up the Uptown—friends, family, neighbors, cinephiles, colleagues—by donating as little as $20 to make sure this 20+ year abandoned movie theater gets transformed into a new cultural destination for the Upper West Side.
SO…
- If you’re tired of schlepping downtown for the latest indie, documentary, international or repertory film;
- If you can’t wait to have quality family cinema close by, for you and your children;
- If you want AFFORDABLE ticket and concession stand prices;
- If you want a state-of-the-art facility with 35mm/70mm projection, comfortable seating, sustainable features and ADA amenities;
- If you’re hoping to have a new local café;
- If you want to see a historic, Art Deco theater preserved;
- and if you want to see a neighborhood revitalized…
…If all of this is worth $20 to you—or more–please make a gift to the Uptown today! And if you have the capacity to make a larger donation, please do so!
