Sloan Foundation \nTHE TRUMAN SHOW\nPeter Weir\, 1998\, USA\, Comedy\, 103 minutes\nCast: Jim Carrey\, Laura Linney \nAn insurance salesman begins to suspect that his whole life is actually some sort of reality TV show. Nominated for three Academy Awards and boasting a rare 94% on Rotten Tomatoes\, the film was hailed by legendary critic Roger Ebert as “that rarest of inventions: a movie that is not only funny and touching\, but also genuinely thought-provoking.” The Atlantic notes its devastating study of “voyeurism and audience complicity” has only grown sharper with time. \nABOUT THE SPEAKER \nMichael Morris is the Chavkin-Chang Professor of Leadership at Columbia Business School and Professor in the Psychology Department of Columbia University.  Professor Morris has published over 200 articles in leading behavioral science and management journals on topics such as decision-making\, social judgment\, negotiation\, and social networks. His early research on culture and cognition helped to spark the growth of cultural psychology and his more recent research on the triggering and learning of cultural codes has helped to shift the field to a more dynamic conception of cultural influences. His scientific papers have received international awards from scholarly societies in the fields of social psychology\, judgment and decision-making\, psychology in the public interest\, Asian psychology\, management\, human resources\, marketing\, and others. His debut popular book Tribal (published in October 2024) argues that leaders can harness shared cultural identities to unify and mobilize groups of people to work together. \nTickets:\n$7/adult (plus $5 Symphony Space Facility Fee added at checkout)\n$5/seniors & students (plus $5 Symphony Space Facility Fee added at checkout) \nBUY TICKETS HERE \nThis program is supported\, in part\, by public funds from the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) in partnership with the City Council and the office of NY City Council Majority Leader Shaun Abreu and Speaker Julie Menin \n
